This blanket chest is an authentic American colonial piece of furniture from the William and Mary period circa 1710-40. The chest origin is from New England states, and most likely Massachusetts. Rare to find a blanket chest with a personal family locking bottom drawer. This chest retains its original dry surface of Spanish Brown paint. The chest form is wonderful with tall arched boot jack sides and feet. The single plank side boards have some shrinkage. There are a few patches to the moldings and the William and Mary brasses are quality reproductions, but the piece is quite intact for its age. The hinges were replaced from the original cotter pin snipe hinges. The glove box is intact as well as the original drawer lock found inside the chest. The patina on this chest is perfect for the serious primitive collector.
