Product Description

This vintage Mexican Bas Relief wood carving. The plaque is not signed but is an excellent relief. Mexican Bas Relief carvings are generally carved out of a single piece of wood. The wood is carved in a negative manner, meaning that the carver removes the areas that represent the distance, which leaves high and low areas, which gives the carving a three dimensional effect. This hand carved piece is brightly colored and depicts a farm worker and his burrow watching the sign rise or set. It is hard to date this piece, but a majority of this artwork is said to be produced from the 1930s, with examples into the 1950s.
